In Turin, Carlo (74), a man with an enigmatic past, lives with Alice (27), his young and determined girlfriend, an aspiring horror film actress. Their apparently solid relationship is tested by tensions with Alice's upper-class family, Carlo's financial problems and a disturbing darkness that seems to resurface from his past. While Alice tries to break into the film industry, Carlo becomes increasingly withdrawn, tormented by nightmares and fragmented memories of an oppressive mother and a former life of easy money and violence. His obsession for control and fear of decline push him to the brink of madness. Meanwhile, a macabre criminal organisation nicknamed “The Beasts of the Lake”, responsible for heinous cannibalistic murders, dominates the news. The couple's dynamics intertwine with this disturbing reality, bringing out a shocking truth: Carlo is not just a man in crisis, but a predator poised between redemption and damnation. When he discovers that Alice is hiding something from him and that she works in a restaurant linked to his ghosts of the past, Carlo is overwhelmed by paranoia and sets off towards an inescapable destiny. Their love, fragile and dangerous, is now a slipknot ready to tighten.
